Trash into Treasure

Noah Deledda turns trash into artpieces by transforming old aluminum cans into sculptures
16 July, 2018
Most people don't really give a second thought to their used drink cans as they tip them into the bin.
But Detroit-born artist Noah Deledda has found a wonderfully creative way to turn aluminum cans into beautiful sculptures.

The most impressive part about Deledda's work is the fact that he creates the precise patterns not with elaborate tools, but with his thumbs.
"Through sculpture I try to create something unique out of an ordinary object," – reveals Deledda. His process begins by scratching away the can's commercial design. This "reveals a brilliant raw material of the otherwise ordinary consumer item." To make his indented patterns, Deledda developed a technique through years of trial and error—and plenty of practice. He believes it's important to use his own hands rather than specialized tools or machine-led manipulation. "My goal, and reason for ever making art, is to raise awareness of the importance of the creative process. This drives me to create work that challenges perception and inspires curiosity."

Once each piece of recycled metal art is complete, Deledda then frames them in glass boxes, and documents each gleaming sculpture with photos and videos. "Every new design I discover is my favourite, until the next one is discovered of course," he said.

Deledda has exhibited his work throughout North America and in Switzerland.
