RED IPhone Answers the Call

Apple offers special edition iPhone products in support of the Global Fund.
6 April, 2017
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are now available in a special-edition red that went on sale March 24.
The newly-released versions of the iPhone are part of a partnership with the RED organization to raise funds in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

"The introduction of this special edition iPhone in a gorgeous red finish is our biggest RED offering to date," said Apple CEO Tim Cook, "and we can't wait to get it into customers' hands."
The bright aluminium finish offers a fresh take on the Apple smartphones that many people love, with a smart look that tells the world customers are just as committed to the social good the phone does too.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus come with iOS 10, which the company launched with features that include messaging upgrades, redesigned maps, more ways to use Siri, and the Home app to help securely integrate and manage all of the Internet of Things devices you need to use in one place.
The standard versions are available in two shades of black, silver, gold and the pink-tinged rosegold. With both model versions, there is normally a 32GB option along with the 128GB and 256 GB capacities, but only the latter two are available in the special-edition RED aluminium option.

From there, the phones are identical to their counterparts, with the iPhone 7 Plus offering a slightly larger screen size at 158.2 mm by 77.9 mm, when compared with the iPhone 7 dimensions of 138.3 mm to 67.1 mm. The Plus is negligibly thicker, and weighs 50 grams more than the standard iteration.
Both models have the high-quality LED, display zoom and multi-touch screen that is common to Apple users, though the pixel resolution and contrast ratio are improved on the larger screen. The A10 Fusion chip is the same in both too, although the iPhone 7 Plus boasts some added features on a 12MP camera.

Both models offer 4K video recording with standard HD ranges and other features, but the Plus adds the 6X digital zoom capabilities. The FaceTime HD camera, biometric fingerprint-ID system, video and audio calling are all identical. So are the location and other connectivity services that include assisted GPS and GLONASS, digital compass, Wi-Fi, cellular and Apple's iBeacon microlocation product.
The iPhone 7 Plus does add some battery power, with longer standby and wireless talking times, while there's a more modest one-hour boost in Internet and Wi-Fi times, and wireless audio and video playback-streaming capacities. As with the other iPhone 7 models, the product ships with earpods and connector, a headphone jack adapter, and USB cable and power adapter.

What's different is the beautiful – and recyclable – red aluminium color. The special-edition red iPhones are available online and in stores in more than 40 countries, and join iPod gear and other Apple products in the RED line.
The Apple brand supports efforts to provide life-saving ARV medication in sub-Saharan Africa with this initiative; the RED platform helps to facilitate brands and their corporate stewardship products, in this case to help a part of the world that two-thirds of the global population living with HIV/AIDS calls home.
