Móz Metals and Aluminium Décor

Designers, architects, and artists all appreciate aluminium for its ease of use, light weight, and lasting durability.

In Oakland, California, one company specializes in creative new design uses for aluminium.
When it comes to quality products for interior design, it's hard to overlook what Móz Metals and Architectural Products brings to construction creativity with its aluminium – and its commitment to sustainability. The family business that started out 25 years ago in Oakland has grown to become a powerhouse in custom metal fabrication while specializing in architectural aluminium art.

From cruise ships to airports, Móz designers create a striking effect in metal décor. While much of the company's work stays inside – where walls, doors and ceilings are transformed into breathtaking works of art – Móz professionals can take their skills outdoors too. That's the case at the Aruba Airport, where pleated royal blue panels made of 80 percent recycled aluminium are installed at the roofline to create a crown effect. That same royal blue in oversized aluminium mesh panels creates a dramatic effect at a Texas community college, while retail stores and offices are clad in copper-toned solid panel facades.

It's the interior décor that makes a real impression, especially with Móz laser-cut art installations. There are four styles – weave art, tides art, blendz art and digital – that create impact and beauty inside. The aluminium treatments help earn LEED credits in green-friendly buildings, but some are found at sea.

The weave art aboard the Pacific Eden, a cruise ship based in Sydney, Australia, integrates a two-story weave wall into its dining room. The project was completed with five, 31 foot (9.45 meter) aluminium panels in a bamboo-grain antique gold that wrap vertically up the wall and across the ceiling. Working with Swedish designer Petra Ryberg, the Móz team helped to create a floating effect by with backlighting installed. Ryberg describes the overall look as rich, elegant and dramatic, without being overbearing in the space.
In the iconic Global Trade Square building in Hong Kong, a Móz tide art solution is used in a surprising place. Tide art is created by using multidimensional waved aluminium panels, in this case in the 17th-floor utility space. High-rise buildings are required to have a refuge space for occupants in case of fire, and these panels transformed that space into an observation deck. It's open to the public as well as tenants, who come to enjoy sweeping vistas of the city or gather there during workday breaks.
Blendz art is used indoors and out – and can be seen in the ocean-wave medallions on the exterior of the Marriott San Diego, for example. The blendz technique is used for feature art panels, often to evoke a sense of draping in tapestried color that's applied to the laser-cut panels. With so many colors and patterns to choose from, customers benefit from exploring the create-your-own-art feature on the Móz Metals website. The tool makes it easy to choose the artwork, textures, hues, and then place the order.

But custom work remains the strength at Móz, and the digital design techniques make gallery-grade art possible. Digital images are printed on aluminium panels to create a multilayered texture to showcase a client's art choices. One of the newest projects is revealing a woman's face line-drawn in light against deep dark, on 16 aluminium panels that create a mosaic effect when completed and installed in Boston.

The company also offers more mundane products, like digital signage or office space partitions, all in keeping with the earth-friendly Móz philosophy and reflecting the versatility and value of aluminium.
